
Angela Scates Oboist
Bio
Angela Scates, a twenty-one year old oboist, has appeared as a soloist, chamber musician, and orchestral performer throughout numerous venues across the U.S. In 2019, Angela reached semi-finalist status with the National Endowment of the Arts’ Presidential Scholar program, was named a National YoungArts Foundation Competition Finalist, and was a Finalist in the Interlochen Arts Academy Concerto Competition.
Angela is a featured oboe soloist on "One Afternoon" from the album Espresso, recorded by Bob James, an American Grammy Award-winning jazz keyboardist, arranger, and record producer. The album was released on August 31st of 2018. In September of 2018, Angela was interviewed and performed on Interlochen Public Radio.
At only thirteen years old, Angela decided to leave home and devote all of her time into her musical interests by attending Interlochen Arts Academy as a boarding student in the fall of 2015, studying under the direction of Dan Stolper and Dane Philipsen. During her four years at Interlochen, she was a 2017 and 2018 recipient of the Interlochen Fine Arts Award in Music, and in 2019 received the prestigious Interlochen Young Artist Award.
Angela made her solo debut at only 13 years old at Weill Recital Hall in Carnegie Hall.
Angela currently attends The Juilliard School where she studies the oboe under Elaine Douvas.
